Following his weekend win at Brands Hatch, celebrations continue for Nikita Johnson he is announced as the first Hitech GP driver to compete in the 2025 GB3 Championship.
This achievement is adding to a list of many as Johnson already has an impressive number of accolades behind him despite being just 16-years old.
Before moving to the UK, Nikita dominated in karting. In 2016 he won National, Midwest and Florida Micro-ROK Championships. He also won the Florida Winter Tour Mini-ROK Ocala Gran Prix in the following season and raced in WSK in Europe for two seasons. In 2018, he won the Ocala Grand Prix Junior Championship and a paid university scholarship before moving into car racing.
He is one of the most profound talents to land in motorsport after an impressive debut which dates back to 2021 when he was just 12-years old. During the YACademy series, he became the youngest-ever race winner behind the wheel of a contemporary F4 vehicle.
But, the achievements don’t stop in single-seat competitions. In 2020, Nikita was Vice-Champion in Legends Dirt USA Nationals, and in 2021 he won the Legends Road Course World Championship.
One year later, he went on to win the YACademy Winter Series F4 title in 2022. In total he achieved three race wins and two podium finishes in just six races. In the same year, he placed third in the USF Junior Championships with three wins, seven podiums, five poles, and five fastest laps - making him the youngest-ever winner at Road America.
Nikita has an impressive history in the IndyCar USF2000 and started strong with a P2 on his debut in Portland in 2022. He also became 2023 USF2000 Vice-Champion, and the 2022 USF Junior Championship’s third-placed driver - all titles made up of an impressive tally in race wins and podiums.
In the top-tier USF Pro 2000 Championship, Nikita dominated. After winning the final five races, including one at Circuit of the Americas, he became the youngest and only driver to win at all three levels of the USF Pro Championships.
Johnson then joined the GB3 Championship half-way through the 2024 season following his 16th birthday and soon became the youngest-ever race winner in the series after clinching the win in Zandvoort.
Reflecting upon this new milestone, Nikita said: “I want to thank my management team of my father, Obie Johnson, and Harry Soden at Infinity Sports Management for working with Hitech GP to place me in this top-tier team. They have demonstrated the ability to develop young drivers, such as George Russell, and I am focused on working with the team to advance.”
With his talent and dedication, Nikita is definitely a young talent to watch.
2025 will be the team and Nikita’s first full season racing in Europe as they look to build on the momentum from their 2024 GB3 campaign. Following the success of their 2024 campaign, Hitech GP will add another two drivers to complete their line-up. Nikita will take to the track in April as the series will return for another eight-rounds and 24 races, with six events taking place at Formula 1 venues.
