Matías Zagazeta will be back competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship next year with newcomers DAMS Lucas Oil.
The Peruvian driver will be looking to build on his 2024 season after finishing P25 in the overall Driver Standings, and will be hunting down further podiums after his P3 finish during Round 7 at Silverstone.
Matías is very excited for next year and said: “I’m very happy to join a team with such a rich history in motorsport, which has been a leading outfit in Formula 2 for several years. It’s a new environment for everyone in the series with the updated car, but I hope that my knowledge will help us to achieve great results together.”
Outside of FIA Formula 3, Zagazeta has multiple motorsport accolades. Since 2019 he has made waves in British Formula 4. After his first official appearance in 2020 during a scholarship event, he achieved the runner-up position. The 21-year olds success didn’t stop there as he achieved numerous podiums during his rookie season, and a year later he secured the Vice Championship title. In the same year he participated in the Formula Regional European Championship in 2022 - adding to his experience across European race tracks.
2025 will be the first year DAMS Lucas Oil joins the third-tier Championship and they’ll be looking to build on the success they’ve had in FIA Formula 2.
Team Owner, Charles Pic, is very much looking forward to the season ahead, he said: “After the testing days in Spain earlier this month we’re thrilled to confirm Matías for the 2025 season. It was always important for us to have a driver with experience in the series. We’re hopeful that Matías can provide us with a great insight along with our team’s proven methods that have served us well in recent years, helping us to start our F3 journey as best we can.”
Infinity Sports Management’s Struan Moore said: “We’re delighted to see Matias take on a second year of the FIA F3 World Championship. Even more so with DAMS, who we know has great history and success in the sport. We believe in Matias’s talent and we are very much looking forward to seeing him progress further in 2025.”
2025 promises to be an exciting year for Zagazeta and DAMS Lucas Oil.
The 2025 FIA F3 Championship starts in Melbourne for Round 1 from March 14 - 16.
