It was certainly a weekend to remember for Jonny Edgar and AO Racing by TF Sport as they won the European Le Mans Series (LMP2 classification) Championship title.
In his first season in endurance racing, Jonny impressively secured one pole position, four podiums, and one race win in just six races - a statistic to be proud of. The British driver’s hard work paid off as he tasted Championship victory just a few days ago.
Last weekend, the final round of the European Le Mans Series took place in Portugal for the 4 Hours of Portimao. Going into the weekend, Jonny and his teammates Robert Kubica and Louis Deletraz, were one of three teams in contention for the Championship title - they were just six points clear of their competition.
Across the weekend, Jonny drive was strong, and the team topped Free Practice 1. Come qualifying, car #14 took P7 with a time of 1m 31.474 - the fight from down the field was on.
On race day, it was all to play for. In what turned out to be a dramatic showdown, Edgar and his teammates kept their cool and executed a great race. As the chequered flag was waved and they crossed the finish line - victory and another podium was theirs.
With Sunday’s P2, Jonny achieved another podium, and his first Championship title during his debut season.
Struan Moore, of Infinity Sports Management, commented on Edgar’s win: “Transitioning from single seaters into endurance racing is a big challenge and we’re proud to see Jonny make such progress this season. To achieve this in his first year of sportscars is a huge milestone for Jonny. Well done to TF Sport, Jonny, and his co-drivers, Louis and Robert for a fantastic ELMS title win.”
It has been an incredible year for Jonny, and he will now be taking some time to recharge ahead of 2025.
European Le Mans Series returns in 2025 with Round 1 commencing in Barcelona at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
