Ready to pounce after a successful weekend out at Paul Ricard, the Renault Eurocup guys took to the track in Silverstone for another double-header, where they wasted no time in proving their pace.
Impressing the home crowds, Max Fewtrell was quick to show his hand by setting a new Formula Renault Eurocup track record in the practice sessions, before converting his early pace into pole position. Lining up alongside Max on the front row, Logan Sargeant ensured it was an Infinity driver lockout. As the R-ace GP teammates powered off the line, Max maintained the lead whilst any efforts from Logan were halted by the appearance of a safety car. Superbly timing his restart at the end of Lap 4, Max pulled out a gap to the chasing pack, posting a series of blistering lap times on his way to take the victory. Joined on the podium by Logan, we certainly enjoyed another one-two for our boys in what’s turning to be a fiercely competitive championship.
Whilst Max unfortunately suffered a technical retirement, Logan was back battling as the second race got underway, giving great chase to teammate Milesi, keeping him honest from lights to the flag. Unable to find his way through he settled for another second place, his second trip to the podium and earning himself another strong haul of points in the title battle.
With his confidence building, Frank Bird's rapid pace in the collective tests ahead of the weekend, paved the way for his best qualifying performance of the season, which saw him starting from P5 in front of his home crowd. But his strong efforts were sadly in vain, as incidents in both races saw his weekend cut short. Putting a tricky race weekend behind him, we’re confident Frank will continue to improve and the results will come along with it.
Fresh from Silverstone, the young drivers faced the ultimate challenge on the Eurocup calendar, the streets of Monaco. With such small room for error and narrowest of margins for improvement, the street track offers little chance for overtaking. We joined the boys as they ramped their attack against the unforgiving ribbon of tarmac. Following a tricky qualifying session, the guys set about making the most of their positions and scoring as many points as possible. Although the field finished much as they started across both races, that didn’t stop our intrepid racers finding any opportunity to make up ground, as highlighted by a sensational overtake from Max into Nouvelle Chicane.
Max and Logan collected valuable points in a trouble-free weekend, whilst Frank fought his way through, gaining positions at a track notoriously difficult to overtake at.
With just under two months break in the season, the guys will be ready to take the bull by the horns when the championship continues on 20-22 July at Red Bull Ring.
"The formula Renault Eurocup drivers are all doing a great job. Race 1 at Silverstone was a fantastic day for us with Max and Logan bringing home a 1-2. Frank had also performed magnificently in qualifying but was unlucky in both races with crashes early on. Logan also found himself on the podium again on Sunday so overall it was a brilliant weekend for him."
